American Bar

The so-called American Bar or Loosbar is situated in Kärntner Durchgang, first district of Vienna. Designed in 1908 by Adolf Loos, this location is today known as "Kärnterbar". The bar was, the moment it was opened, an attraction for avantgarde Vienna. Loos designed the small room (base: 6,15x4,45) with special effects like mirrors and created an elegant, exceptional bar-room using precious materials for decoration. Originally Loos had planned a location with standing rooms, but the owner desired to have seats. Worth seeing is further the coffered ceiling of marble.
